Group: Treatment for Opening Sequence

Treatment

In 1960’s England serial killer Janet is being questioned by the metropolitan police over the murders of several people occurring over the last few years.

They are in an abandoned warehouse; it is dark, damp and gloomy. The scene begins with a black screen and a male voice asking a question in a curious tone, the first thing the audience see’s is a close up of the antagonist’s mouth lighting up a cigarette. The detectives are not aware of any accomplices in the murders however the audience knows otherwise due to the flashbacks throughout the interrogation.

The two detectives are experienced but still show signs of being scared and intimidated by Janet. One of the men is a detective so is in a casual suit and slicked back 1960’s style hair. You can see that Janet is handcuffed to the chair, whilst the other policemen who is dressed in uniform and armed is clearly scared and trying to finish the questioning quickly. Janet refuses to reveal any information and blows smoke in the detective’s faces, she is mad. Janet is being questioned more intensely now, the detectives are becoming increasingly frustrated. One detective asks, “how did you carry out these murders?” Janet then nonchalantly answers in detail.

While Janet is describing her murders, we see flashbacks of her and her husband committing the murders. Half is described by Janet and half is described by the flashbacks. At this moment, Janet is laid back, sitting back in her chair, legs crossed, as if nothing has happened.

While the detectives are interrogating her, we see a car pull up outside the warehouse. At this point the two detectives present Janet with a picture of a man, they ask, "do you know this man?", Janet makes a wry smile. Then the man on the picture and in the flashbacks bursts through the door and murders both of the police officers, taking Janet and escaping.

We would like to set the opening in the 1960's but we do think this could be to difficult so if problems arise we are open to changing the era,
